TOWN Tidy volunteers have expressed their disappointment in the amount of rubbish being discarded in the streets by a “small minority” of residents.
At last week’s Town Tidy event, which is organised by South West in Bloom Melksham, bags of rubbish were collected from across the town.
Volunteers cleared a number of sites in the town, including by the splashpad in King George V playing field and Prince of Wales Garden, which had both been used for “partying”.
A spokesperson for the event said, “There was a good turn out for this week’s Bloomer-run Town Tidy, which had been rescheduled from last Sunday (4th October) due to the atrocious weather. The sun shone and as usual a lot of litter and various odd bits and pieces were collected by the volunteers.
“Partying had been going on by the splashpad and Prince of Wales Garden – more discarded balloons and empty nitrous containers. Sainsbury’s need to make sure they pick up all the discarded bits of plastic cable ties when changing banners.
“Just a shame a small minority of people seem to think nothing of dropping or throwing litter wherever they are – cans, bottles, cigarette packets, takeaway containers, masks and rubber gloves etc. All harmful to the environment.”
