The lure of the Golden Jersey has finally beckoned Jenny Dalton from Seend into signing up to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats again. This time, she will be joined by first-timer Ian Seager, who completed his first 100-mile cycle ride last year.
The much-coveted jerseys are awarded to alumni riders who tackle the Ride Across Britain route for the third time and are printed with the rider’s name and the years ridden. Jenny is hoping to get her jersey after successful rides in 2015 and 2017.
This year Jenny will be joined by Ian Seager, also a Seend resident. Ian, who has spent the last 12 months training with the SPPCC (Seend Pork Pie Cycling Club), will tackle the gruelling 974 miles alongside Jenny.
The journey will begin on Saturday 8th September and finish on 16th September and will cover 974 miles end to end.
Jenny said, “As part of our training we have cycled numerous 60-100 mile routes since the start of the year, including a weekend trip cycling from Seend to Skegness and the recent Wadworth Brewery Sportive.
“I’m feeling nervous as always, as it’s such a massive challenge both physically and mentally! We’ve been training as much as possible, but the weather this year hasn’t been too kind – we have completed plenty of rain training and now it’s the opposite end of the scale with scorching sun!”
Jenny has two close relatives who are both suffering from Parkinson’s disease. “I find it unbelievable there is no cure for this condition, Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition, this means it causes problems in the brain which get worse over time,” she added.
The cycling duo aim to raise £2,500 for Parkinson’s UK, a charity who provide a variety of invaluable online, face-to-face, self-serve support mechanisms in addition to nursing care and research.
Jenny added, “You can follow the witty training journey on the “Seend Pork Pie Cycling Club” Facebook page and by all means give us a shout if you fancy coming for a pie or bike ride with us.. the more the merrier!”
