A MELKSHAM postman has been dismissed from his role following complaints of mail going missing.
The news follows a number of concerns, shared by residents on the ‘Sham Shout Outs’ Facebook page, about their post not arriving when expected.
Speaking to Melksham News, Royal Mail confirmed that a postman was dismissed in connection with the complaints, for ‘not providing the high quality service they are committed to providing to their customers’.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said, “Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hardworking and who do all they can to protect the mail and deliver it safely. Royal Mail will always seek to take action against the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust.”
Residents have also complained about their post arriving already opened, but Royal Mail say that they have not been made aware of any issues regarding opened or damaged mail by any Melksham residents.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said, “We apologise if any item of mail has been delivered to our customers in Melksham in a damaged condition. Every item of mail is important to us and we process and deliver many millions of items of mail each day without incident. Very occasionally, items of mail may be damaged as they pass through our processing machines.
“We can investigate any such incidents further if customers contact our customer services team with all the details via our website: www.royalmail.com, by telephone: 03457 740740 or via Twitter: @RoyalMail.”
