THE White Hart in Atworth cycled 1350km in just over 10 hours on static exercise bikes on Sunday 19th May, raising more than £1,000 for Melksham Food Bank and Crisis Fund.
One hundred riders including staff, the local community and Melksham Person of the Year 2018 winners and owners of the White Hart, Nathan and Kirsty Cortilla, all took turns in cycling, helping to reach the total.
As well as the ‘cycle-thon,’ other fundraising events were held including coffee and cake, a smoothie bar, live music, a book and DVD sale and food served in the evening, which all contributed to raising £1,001.92 for Melksham Crisis Fund.
They also collected non-perishable food donations for Melksham Food Bank, which works alongside the Crisis Fund.
Kirsty Cortilla said, “Nathan and I would like to give enormous thanks to everyone involved in this event, from the 100 cyclists, to all the local (mostly independent) companies who donated the raffle prizes, to the villagers and companies for the loan of the bikes, our team for all the support before, during and after the event, and to everyone that has donated.
“We also went and personally thanked all the children that cycled in the cycle-thon, at Churchfields Village School. Between all the kids they achieved a grand total of 138km towards the final total!”
Hilary and Alan, volunteers from Melksham Food Bank, visited The White Hart in Atworth on Friday 24th May to receive the donations.
