The 17-seater bus was purchased at the beginning of March and after a little refurbishment and new decal, its maiden voyage was on Saturday 29th March. After the group’s first successful adventure to Basingstoke for indoor skydiving, it is now easy to understand how useful the minibus will be.
The group has 50 young people from the local community in four sections: Beavers (6 – 8) Cubs (8 – 10.5) Scouts (10.5 – 14) Explorers (14-18). The minibus is as a way of further enhancing their adventures and experiences, through days out, camping, outdoor activities and community support.
Bob Whiffing, assistant Scout leader said, “Adventure is at the heart of everything we do. It is the single most important thing that sets Scouts apart. It’s exciting being involved with us. We believe that through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives.
“We offer hundreds of activities, as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, electronics, zorbing, and archery. There’s something for every young person, whatever their physical ability
“The community grant has already had a massive impact on what we can offer and is part of all our planning activities for next term.
“We are most definitely on an adventure and would like to thank Wiltshire County Council and the Melksham Area Board for their support.”
