STAFF at a Melksham opticians have raised over £1,000 for Dorothy House Hospice after one member took part in the Bath Midnight Walk before the whole team took part in a pyjama day.
Julie Burrage, store manager at the Specsavers store on Bank Street completed the 8km Bath Midnight Walk in her pyjamas to raise money for Dorothy House. Then a few days later, the whole team at the Melksham store continued the nocturnal theme to further support the cause by wearing their pyjamas to work, and raised additional funds for the charity by selling home-made cakes in return for donations.
Julie Burrage said, “It has been great fun coming to work in our pyjamas and certainly meant getting ready for work this morning was much easier! Following on from the Bath Midnight Walk which I also did last year, it has been fun and it is a pleasure to raise money for such a worthwhile local charity.
“It means so much to me after my friend was cared for there recently; it is a great charity. We had an initial fundraising target of £200 but already we have surpassed £1,000 and hope to raise as much as we can.”
Around 800 people are looked after every day by Dorothy House and are cared for mainly in their own homes, supported by specialist nurses and other health professionals, outreach and out-patient services.
