A QUILTING group in Melksham recently made a unique quilt and raised £100 for charity by auctioning it off.
The Denes Quilters group, which meets once a month at Forest Community Centre, made the quilt after being given the starting patches by someone who was unable to finish the piece. They sold the piece to raise money for Julia’s House children’s hospice charity.
The group’s Liz Norris said, “This past year we have been supporting Julia’s House, and our group was given some hexagons that had been sewn by someone who could no longer finish them off into a quilt.
“Each member took a couple of the hexagon flower shapes and we sewed them to a cream backing fabric. We all then hand quilted and one of our members put the squares together into a double bed size quilt.
“It was then taken to Devizes to a silent auction and raised £100 for the charity.”
