This month’s display at Melksham’s ‘pop-up’ museum in the town hall commemorates the 85th anniversary of RAF Melksham.
The display has been installed by Melksham District and Historical Association, which is encouraging people to pop in and learn more about Melksham’s air force heritage.
RAF Melksham was a Royal Air Force station which operated as a non-flying training base. It was established in 1940 and closed in 1965.
It also trained personnel from other Allied Air Forces and the Royal Naval Air Service. After its closure, the site was developed into the Bowerhill Industrial Estate and residential area.
A selection of photos from the time are displayed, as well as a panoramic image of the site.
