MELKSHAM Bloomers are looking for help for a number of projects in 2022. And not just with planting!
“Melksham Bloomers work hard to enhance our townscape, it is NOT just gardening, but we also work throughout the year keeping the town looking good,” explains Terri Welch on behalf of the Bloomers.
“Every month, generally the first Sunday of the month between 1-3pm, there is a litter picking session. Everybody is welcome and young children really enjoy helping out. Numbers vary but generally there are about 15-20 people who give up a couple of hours to keep our High Street clean of rubbish. Meet us at the Town Hall.
“Another feature that Bloomers lead on is the Market Place flags that hang in the summer. These have become a feature in recent years and this year’s plans are being made, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.
“The pandemic has meant that people have had to work from home, but hopefully we can continue with our monthly meetings at the Town Hall as well as at home. Now this is where we need help, can you sew? Can you cut out. Can you join our flag team? Gardening skills are definitely not needed for this!
“On the gardening side, Melksham Bloomers look after a variety of areas, and with more help we could take on more bits of the town. But you do NOT need to be a horticulturalist to help. Can you use a lawnmower? Can you water? Can you spray, can you weed? The list goes on.
“All that is needed is a desire to make our town a better place to live in. We will be starting a new scheme on Thursday 27th January, and every other week, meeting at 10am at the Town Hall to see what jobs need doing.
“So do come along and help. You are needed. If you forget which week we meet, it is the week after the Melksham Independent News comes out. Easy to remember!”
