Detectives are renewing an appeal for information after a robbery occurred on a bus in Melksham on 2nd September.
The bus was a Fare Saver (X34) which travelled from Frome to Melksham. The driver stopped in Longford Road, Melksham, at approximately 6.30pm. She believed all passengers had left the bus but was mistaken and was approached by a male who punched her to the face and grabbed a bag containing the takings.
The man ran off behind the bus and out of sight. It is believed that a Vauxhall Corsa had to stop as he ran in front of the vehicle.
He is described as white, aged in his late 20s, 5’9/5’10” tall and of slim build. He had mousy hair and a spotty complexion. He was wearing a black hoody and grey jogging bottoms.
It’s believed the suspect got on the bus at Wyke Road, Trowbridge. He may have taken another earlier Faresaver bus into Trowbridge as he travelled back on a return ticket.
Fortunately the 38-year- old local victim was not seriously hurt in the incident but was very shaken.
Detective Constable Kev Golledge said, “It is absolutely imperative that we speak to every single person who was travelling on the bus.
“If you got on the bus at Trowbridge, regardless of where you then got off of the bus, please can you make contact with police immediately. It doesn’t matter if you left the bus before where the incident took place in Longford Road, Melksham, we would still like to speak to you.”
DS Nicola Caffrey added, “This was a frightening experience for the bus driver and I would like to appeal for the help of the public to identify the man responsible.
“I would like all the passengers who travelled on the bus between Trowbridge and Melksham on that evening between 6.00pm – 6.30 pm to contact me.
“I would also like to speak to the driver of the Corsa which we believe had to stop as the suspect ran in front of the car on Longford Road. All calls will be taken in confidence and I encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Caffrey at Melksham CID on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left anonymously if preferred.
