A second successful Daytime Disco in Melksham welcomed 260 residents for an afternoon of dancing and social connection at the Assembly Hall.
The free event, held on Friday 9th January for residents aged 55 and over, was organised by Age UK Wiltshire in partnership with Get Out Get Active. The atmosphere was lively from the outset, with attendees dancing the afternoon away from the moment DJ Kenny played the first track, enjoying music spanning the 1960s through to the 1980s.
It followed the huge success of the first disco in Melksham in October last year, where 180 people enjoyed an afternoon of dancing, socialising and refreshments from the bar.

Age UK Wiltshire Chief Executive Officer Sarah Cardy said, “Events like our Daytime Discos are a great way to help older people stay active and less isolated. They also give us the opportunity to introduce people to the wider range of support and services we offer across Wiltshire, helping older people live well and remain independent in later life.”
The charity has now hosted several Daytime Discos across Wiltshire, with 814 people taking part in events held in Calne, Royal Wootton Bassett, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Tisbury, as well as Melksham.
One resident who attended the latest Melksham disco said, “I’ve had a wonderful time with my friends, laughing and dancing. I haven’t moved like that for years.”

Another resident said, “Thank you, Age UK Wiltshire, for organising such a fun afternoon. So much better than sitting in front of the telly at home, alone.”
The next Daytime Disco is being held in Trowbridge on Friday 30th January from 2pm to 4pm at Trowbridge Town Hall. To view other upcoming dates, visit the Age UK Wiltshire website – https://www.ageuk.org.uk/wiltshire/activities-and-events/daytime-discos2/
