Retirement housebuilders McCarthy and Stone have set their sights on Spa Road as a site for their next retirement complex.
They want to build 30 retired living apartments with 24 parking spaces and amenity space for the residents on the plot which is now Withleigh House on Spa Road, below the brow of Spa bridge.
Shane Paull of McCarthy and Stone said, “We have spent time carefully researching the architecture and character of Melksham to ensure what we are proposing is a sensitive fit to the town and its number of historical buildings, while at the same time introducing a specialist form of housing to help meet an identified, and growing, need in the area.
“We want to hear from the local community before we submit a planning application and will be displaying our plans at the exhibition; the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals where possible.”
McCarthy and Stone hope their apartments help allow people in later life to retain their independence, close to their family and friends, in a home suited specifically for their needs, in a safe and enjoyable environment.
A public exhibition is being held at Melksham Town Hall on Wednesday 22nd April.
