THE Melksham & District Skittles League rolls back into action next week!
Both the ladies’ and men’s leagues are set to return, however due to the pandemic, a number of teams have withdrawn – so the league is appealing for more players to join them.
“We’ve sadly lost nine ladies’ teams and three men’s teams since our last season in 2019-2020,” said a spokesperson for the league, “the teams have folded due to lack of players and the pandemic.
“Teams are always looking for more players and we also need new ‘stickers up’ – someone who puts the skittles back up for us when we play the game – for the coming season.
“We don’t put an age requirement for stickers up for teams in the league season, but they need to be able to work quickly and safely, whilst also being aware of what’s happening, so maybe 11/12 years old and above is ideal.
“The only time we do have an age requirement is when the league committee provides the ‘sticker up’ for a Cup Semi-final and Final, which is age 13 or above. Ladies’ teams play on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night starting at 8pm and games last about an hour and a half depending on how fast the ‘sticker up’ is.
“Men’s teams play on either a Thursday or a Friday night starting at 8.30pm. Men’s games are a bit longer depending on how fast the ‘sticker up’ is.”
Games resume next week, week commencing 20th September.
