THE search is on to find this year’s Melksham Carnival royalty as entry for the competition has opened – with a new category ‘Glamourous Grandmother’ now added.
The popular competition is to be staged at Melksham Assembly Hall on Sunday 18th May.
Carnival organisers are looking for this year’s Carnival Queen (aged 16+) Carnival Princess (girls in year seven at school to aged 15), Butterfly Princess (girls from reception to school year six), Carnival Prince (boys in reception year through to school year six) and Glamorous grandmother (open to all grandmothers). The competition will commence at 1.00pm, with crowning taking place at 2.30pm. The winners of the competition will lead this year’s Melksham Carnival, which will take place on Saturday 12th of July.
As well as choosing this year’s Carnival royalty, the organisers will also hold the Melksham Bonniest Baby and Carnival Cutie competition on the same day.
Babies and toddlers up to the day before they are five years old can enter. Categories for the competition include birth to six months, six to 12 months, one to two years, two to four years and a twins category. Registration for the baby competition is at 9.00am, with the event starting at 10.00am and the winner revealed at 12 noon.
Each competition costs £3 to enter, although the twins category is free.
No entrants will be accepted on the day for either competition. Forms are available from Andy York Photography, Melksham Tourist Information Centre, Simon at CJS and Candy Jax who are open until 6.00pm Monday through to Saturday.
Carnival committee member Beth Dark said, “It will be a great event as always and we have had plenty of interest from those wanting to enter.
“The Glamorous grandmother competition has been introduced because it’s what the people of Melksham have asked for. We have had so many people ask us that we thought we would give it a go.”
