I joined Melksham Town Council in May 1999 after working for Wiltshire Council for 14 years in the Chief Executive’s Department and then the Education Department.
I initially joined as a Committee Clerk part-time, while I had a young family. Over time this increased to full time. When I joined the Town Council there was only a Town Clerk and an Office Manager in the office. The Town Council team has grown over the years, after taking on the running of the Assembly Hall from West Wilts District Council some years ago, as well as taking on additional office and grounds team staff to cope with the extra demands that have arisen.
I have seen some really dedicated members of the team, over the years, who have gone over and above, to keep things going. I am sure people would be surprised at the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes.
I have been proud to have worked for the Town Council and have met some amazing people who are dedicated to serving the town, not just councillors, but also members of the community, who put a lot of time into good causes for the town. Melksham is very lucky in having some dedicated members of the community, long may this continue.
I will miss everyone, but I know we will bump into each other from time to time!
