A trial scheme of Real Time Information (RIT) at bus stops in the parish has been launched with the first screen installed at the bus stop on Mitchell Drive, Bowerhill.
The screen gives a live display of when the next buses are due or if the bus has been delayed or cancelled. Melksham Without Parish Council says two more screens are also due to be installed on Kestrel Court in Bowerhill, for both directions.
“Melksham Without Parish Council has worked very hard over the last few years to make a Real Time Information display in their bus shelters a reality,” says clerk Teresa Strange.
“The council strongly believes that not every bus user has easy access to information on a smartphone and that being able to see the time the next bus is due will mean that more people will feel more confident using public transport rather than using the car which is especially vital for those that have no other option.”
Teresa said that the 271/272 route has been prioritised but that council will be looking at the other priority sites in the coming weeks. “Displays will be rolled out at other stops and shelters across the parish. Do get in touch with the parish council if you would like to input into that decision making process,” says Teresa.
“The installation of the first three displays has been part funded by Wiltshire Council, and the parish council are grateful for their support with this initiative.”
