THE search for a Melksham good samaritan named ‘Pete’ has made international news.
In September, Melksham News reported how Australian man, Richard Morris, was appealing for information about the identity of a person named ‘Pete’. The mystery person had posted Richard’s wallet back to his home address in Smiths Gully, Australia – over 10,500 miles away – after Richard had lost it whilst visiting Melksham. The only clue Richard had to the identity of ‘Pete’ was a short note that said, “Found this on the side of the road at Melksham, Wiltshire. Hope it gets back to you alright. Kind regards, Pete.”
Nearly two months on from when he was reunited with his wallet, Richard’s search has now made headlines in Australia, with his story receiving television, radio and press coverage. The BBC has also reported on Richard’s search with a story on their website.
“The reaction to the story has been quite astounding,” Richard told Melksham News, “TV, radio and press coverage here (in Australia) and also it has been on the local and national BBC.
“Melksham has definitely been in the news for the past 48 hours, hopefully you will get a deluge of cashed up Aussie tourists!
“Unfortunately Pete remains incognito, perhaps he would like to remain that way.”
