MELKSHAM Seniors are doing their bit to improve the environment by offering members personalised mugs to use during events, instead of non-reusable paper cups.
Brian Warwick, chairman of Melksham Seniors said, “Melksham Seniors are keen to make a number of small gestures to improve our environment by reducing the number of paper cups we use per annum, which is well over 1,000. Whilst our numbers are not hugely significant, every cup saved does becomes significant.
“Mr and Mrs Arthur Cooper, who are regular members and frequently attend the seniors’ film matinee, came up with the proposal to have printed mugs made for the members and agreed to take orders for printing individual’s own name on the mug with the ‘Seniors’ logo.
“As a group we are looking to come up with ideas for improving the environment, but also to improve the lifestyle of our members. We ask that those who do not wish to purchase a mug, bring in their own.
“They are priced at the low cost of £5.50 including printing and are now on sale at all our events, with £3 going towards funding the work that Melksham Seniors does.”
Arthur Cooper said “My wife, Catherine, and I were having mugs made for another charity and had some made for Brian and Beryl at the club, so we thought it was a good idea to offer it to all members of the group.
“It’s nice for them to have, but it also stops them from using the cardboard cups, helping both the environment and helping to fund the group.”
