What should be done with two BT telephone phone boxes in the villages? That the question Community Action: Whitley & Shaw (CAWS) would like your thoughts on.
In early September, BT served consultation notices on both boxes (on Corsham Road and West Hill) meaning that unless they are ‘adopted’ and put to a new use they will be removed.
CAWS has considered a couple of possible uses including a mini library and a local history archive. There are dozens of communities up and down the country who have given the phone boxes a new purpose in a similar way and some have received Heritage Lottery funding to cover the costs.
Before CAWS registers its interest in adopting with Wiltshire Council CAWS would like to hear from the community.
Should they adopt, there would be costs involved in restoring the boxes and ongoing maintenance. Would you be prepared to get involved? Do you have any other ideas on what they could be used for? Should they just be removed? Please email your ideas to shaw_and_whitley@kavan.co.uk
