Shaw Primary School in Melksham is holding its Shaw School Summer Fete taking place on Saturday 1st July from 3pm to 6pm.
This year’s fete is especially important as it will also include the grand opening of the community shelter which the PTA (PaFoS) has been busy for the past 2 years raising money to fund.
The new shelter is attached to the school hall which was built in 2004 and was purposely built to be detached from the school in order to serve both the school and the community. Although the steel structure for a shelter was built budget restraints meant the roof on the shelter was never completed – until now.
The current PaFoS team is made up a group of working mums who recognised the importance of the shelter to provide much needed protection from sun/rain for the children at school as well as enhancing the provision as a community space. The hall is regularly used by many local community groups and PaFoS who will be looking at new ways to develop these community opportunities in the future.
Since 2012, the many different faces of PaFoS have raised over £60,000 for equipment and resources to enhance the children’s education as well improving the schools facilities, which are regularly used by the local community.
