THE Singalong Group which meets at That Meeting Space in the Market Place every Monday will be moving to Berryfield Village Hall, to accommodate the growing group of singers.
Organiser Dee Phesse said, “After failing to find a daytime choir in Melksham, I decided to attempt to set up and run a singing group. It was October 2021, and even though I love singing, I’d never done anything like this before. I was put in touch with John Firth at That Meeting Space (used to be The Arthouse Cafe), who was looking to welcome local people into the space to benefit the local community. He welcomed my idea wholeheartedly, and after a minimum amount of advertising, The Singalong Group was started.
“After a rather slow start, we now have 30+ singers, and have also created a WhatsApp group, making it easy to arrange a good natter over coffee. I love the fact that new friendships have been formed, and people with mental health issues have found singing in a group extremely beneficial, and helps them gain confidence.
“I must stress that a great singing voice is not a requirement, but if you love singing and making new connections, please get in touch. After purchasing the printed 100+ song sheets when you join, the cost after that is just £1 per session.
“We have loved using That Meeting Space, but I know there are many more people who would enjoy and benefit from our group, so when the opportunity came up to use a bigger space, it was time to move on. We start at our new venue on Monday 6th March at the brand new Berryfield Hall, Telford Drive, SN126GF.
“A huge thank you to John for all his support during our time using the hall, and to the staff above the premises at the Melksham News office for putting up with the noise from the enthusiastic singers! If you would like to join us, please get in touch via email, singalongwithdee@gmail.com or call 07790 144704.”
