Three volunteers from Coppershell Farm Sanctuary have completed their first skydive and raised over £1,000 for the charity.
Diane Wood and Lawrence Pike from Melksham joined Jade Foster from Devizes, to take to the skies at the Army Parachute Association’s Netheravon camp on Sunday 14th July.
Diane said, “It was exciting, but scary. It took a lot to step out of a perfectly good plane, but remembering I was doing it for Coppershell Sanctuary spurred me on and gave me the courage I needed.”
The volunteers initially pledged to raise a target of £1,000, but have surpassed their own expectations, having raised a total of £1,518.62. Diane said, “The local people of Melksham were very generous. I was grateful for friends and neighbours for the support they offered and a couple of local businesses were exceedingly generous, digging deep into their pockets, especially the owner of Auto Tech garage, Tony, and the owner of the Antico caffe, Alex. I must say I have been humbled by everyone’s generosity.”
The sanctuary, in Gastard, is funded by public donation, and is run by Genna and Matthew Acourt. The charity started off with a small number of lambs and chickens. They now care for over 160 animals which have been farmed, abandoned or left unwanted.
