MELKSHAM Tourist Information Centre is much more than just an information centre, with cards and gifts, tickets for events and photocopying facilities.
Located opposite on Church Street, opposite the Post Office, the information centre is the place to go to find out what’s going on in the town and surrounding areas, book a shopping trip or day out or buy a card and gift.
Volunteer Pauline Baker said, “The centre, offers a wide range of brochures, leaflets, gifts, cards for all occasions, also has booking facilities for National Express coaches, Melksham Assembly Hall, as well as tickets for other local events, and every year sells Christmas cards for the Good Causes scheme. Perhaps not so well-known are the photo-copying facilities, and there is no need to queue at the Post Office for stamps, as they are always available at the TIC.
“The main window can be hired on a weekly basis for a small charge to advertise a forthcoming event, while sales of Wiltshire Honey are currently proving very popular.
“Are you aware of the very popular weekly Door to Door Shopping trips with the Community Bus? You can find out more and book at the centre. Mobility problems? Not a problem for the Community Bus team.
“Shopping trips are available to those holding Senior Citizen Bus Passes and run each Thursday, alternating between Devizes, Trowbridge and Chippenham, plus the added bonus of going to the local Sainsbury’s every Friday, all of which offer a chance for a change of scenery, of meeting new people, leaving the car at home and doing your shopping hassle free. To book a place on the bus, call in at the TIC where you will receive a warm welcome, or telephone 01225 707 424.
“How about a Day Out? The recent acquisition of two new buses means that many more local people will make use of the opportunity to have a trip to the coast or perhaps the New Forest. Please note that travellers need to enrol on the Membership List (no fee) through the TIC. Bookings can be made at the TIC after which passengers can look forward to travelling to pastures new!
‘The next shopping trips are 23rd February to Chippenham and 2nd March to Devizes. The next day out is 15th March to Wells. Book now.”
