A SPECIAL service is to take place at St Michael’s church as Melksham’s Royal British Legion Women’s Section (RBLWS) celebrates its 90th anniversary.
At the service the standard bearer for the branch will be blessed with a parade of standards from Wiltshire Branches preceding the event.
2014 marks the centenary of the beginning of the Great War and events such as this will be organised all over the country to mark the milestone.
The Melksham RBLWS said, “For 90 years this band of ladies has worked to fulfil the objectives of the women’s section – women working for women. We actively fundraise throughout the year to support women’s section benevolent schemes offering support to women and families of servicemen and ex-servicemen.
“Though the branch receives no money from the Poppy Appeal the ladies of the branch actively support the local Poppy Appeal and provide the refreshments in the Assembly Hall following the Melksham Remembrance parade.
