A LAST minute change of plans at Atworth WI’s recent meeting meant the group, instead of having a visitor, spent the time learning more about one another.
President Helen Snowball reports, “Our speaker at the October meeting was unable to come so the opportunity was taken to have a very enjoyable ‘getting to know you’ session.
“This was particularly appreciated by members who had joined recently and were new to the village. It was interesting to hear how long people had been members and also that some had belonged to the WI in other locations.
“We heard from those who had been on Denman College courses and one of our members showed some photographs of the college accompanied by a short explanation of what is available. Apart from the excellent courses, the meals are wonderful and the bedrooms well appointed.
“We had a discussion about our plans for litter picking each month in the village and asked for volunteers to help with this.
“It was suggested that we might introduce a monthly competition, entry by no means compulsory, that on occasion may be connected with the subject of the speaker. This was agreed by a show of hands.
“We are preparing for our Autumn Fair which is on Saturday 5th November in Atworth Village hall from 10am until noon.
“There will be knitted articles, home sewn articles, crafts, paintings, greetings cards, home produce and cakes, plants, books, games and jigsaws as well as tombola and a raffle and refreshments.
“Our meeting next month is on Monday 21st November at 7.30pm at Lowden Garden Centre where Christine, the florist there, will be demonstrating how to make a decoration for Christmas.”
