MELKSHAM Train Station could see its platform extended as part of major changes to the Great Western Rail Main Line.
Network Rail have asked Wiltshire Council for approval to extend the platform by 33metres which would allow diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains to run through Melksham. The extension will also provide an opportunity to upgrade the existing platform and improve accessibility.
The extension will have tactile paving which will help those with visual impairment. The height of the platform will also be improved to reduce the stepping distance between the train and platform to help those with reduced mobility and the visually impaired.
