Excitement is building for this weekend’s Melksham Food and River Festival, which will have over 70 stalls and a packed line-up of entertainment.
The festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, 3rd and 4th September, at the King George V Playing Field, starting at 10am on both days.
“We have a fabulous line-up and as usual this family event will be free to attend,” said one of the organisers, Adrienne Westbrook. “It’s promising to be a weekend packed full of fun, food, and hopefully sunshine!”
Over the two days, visitors will be able to enjoy culinary delights from all around the world, as well as artisan foods, craft ales, ciders, spirits and other drinks, plus stalls from many local community and charity groups and local entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
Attractions include dance demonstrations, live music, a busker extraordinaire, stilt walking football, juggling and unicycling. On the river will be a wire challenge for adults and children – are you brave enough to zip across the river?; boat trips along the River Avon towards Beanacre to enjoy the wildlife and scenery; a canoe club race; a chance to try paddle boarding; and rescue demonstrations by Wiltshire Search and Rescue.”
Other attractions include fairground rides, an inflatable slide, a climbing wall and face painting.
“The popular mix of music, dancing and food demonstrations will again take place in the Leekes Marquee and these will be interspersed with local musicians showcasing their talents,” added Adrienne.
“On the river, the Mary Archard and the Damsel Fly boats will again be transporting visitors up the river. Melksham Canoe Club will be offering taster sessions on the Saturday, with paddle boarding sessions on both days also being available to book.
“On Sunday, Wiltshire Search & Rescue will use the river to show how they support the emergency services in rescuing missing people.
“Come and visit us during the weekend 3rd – 4th September 2022. Remember, entry is free! After browsing the stalls and indulging in some retail therapy, you can relax and enjoy al-fresco locally- produced food and drink, whilst listening to the live music and watching the boats on the river.
“And you can tickle your tastebuds and try a wonderful array of foods and fabulous cuisine; everything from wood-fired pizzas and Indian street food to Mexican tacos and Ukrainian pancakes, and not forgetting a roast pork and beef carvery, roast potatoes with toppings, amazing breakfast baps and old favourites like fish and chips, burgers and mac and cheese.”
