THERE is still no news about when Christie Miller Sports Centre will close and what services at the centre will be relocated.
At Wiltshire Council’s cabinet meeting in December, it was decided that the sports centre will close as part of the business case for the Melksham Health and Wellbeing centre.
The closure of the sports centre will save the council paying an estimated cost of £1million to keep it open for the next three years whilst the campus is built.
Instead, it will cost Wiltshire Council an estimated £30,000 – £90,000 per year over the three year transition period, to close the centre and relocate some of the leisure facilities.
However, since the announcement, Wiltshire Council is yet to confirm when Christie Miller will close and which of the many services at the centre will be found a new home.
Speaking on behalf of Places for People who are contracted to operate the centre, Katie Mason said, “Wiltshire Council is currently reviewing the cost to keep Christie Miller Sports Centre operational whilst the new Melksham Campus is delivered. This will include looking at all available and affordable options for the re-provision of some of the services for the interim period whilst the new facilities are built.
“Work on the review is under way and as an operational partner, Places for People Leisure will support Wiltshire Council where required during the process.
“At this stage no decision has been made regarding the closure of Christie Miller, or the options for re-providing services and facilities.”
Wiltshire Council had nothing more to add to the Places for People statement.
