Still time to get your ticket for Melksham Seniors Christmas Party

THERE’S still time to get your tickets for the Melksham Seniors Christmas Party on the 19th December.

This year, there will be entertainment from Daisy-Chain productions from Bristol, Aloeric School will be singing Christmas carols and Father Christmas will be taking time out of his busy schedule to pay a visit.

Tickets cost £15 and are sold on a first-come basis so get don’t leave it too late!  They are available from the Assembly Hall or the Tourist Information Centre in Church Street.

Chair of Melksham Seniors, Brian Warwick looks forward to the coming festive season and what’s planned for the group in 2017.

Brian said, “There is still a few days left to purchase a party ticket at the very special price of £5 instead of £15, thanks to the generosity of several of our sponsors.

“The Assembly Hall still have a few tickets as do the Tourist Information Centre but they are going fast so purchase a ticket before it is too late. It is going to be a great party with super entertainment and plenty to eat. We even have a visit promised by Father Christmas and a number of young children from the Aloeric are again coming along to sing Christmas Carols. We’re looking forward to seeing quite a few of their grandparents at the party.

Public meeting of

health and care issues

“On Wednesday the 25th January, we are hosting a  special public meeting on Health and Care issues affecting Wiltshire, including the local Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STP). STP is intended to outline a new approach to help ensure that health and care services are built around the needs of local populations. To do this, every health and care system in England is producing a (STP) showing how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering a five year forward view vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency.

“These changes will affect all of us so at the meeting we will discuss with local health professionals what it means for every local individual. We shall also have the opportunity to ask questions and express our own views on the plans.

“The public meeting will take place in the Council Chamber of Melksham Town Hall at 2.15pm on Wednesday the 25th January. There will be representatives present from the CCG (NHS), RUH who are taking the lead on the STP programme, as well as County Council officers and Health Watch Wiltshire. We shall also hear more about the amalgamation of many of the services provided by the GW Foundation in Swindon, along with the Royal United Hospital and Salisbury Foundation Hospital.

“There will not be an Activity Club meeting in January so the next meeting is on Monday February 6th at the Forest Community Centre.

Fighting scams

“We shall be making an announcement soon about another special public event we are hosting on the 20th March at the Assembly Hall.  It will be a rather fascinating and humorous Theatre show on how to fight scams and cyber crime. You are in for a hilarious yet still serious  couple of hours of entertainment. More to come soon on that subject, but please keep the date open.

Tackling loneliness

“We are very keen to tackle loneliness and social isolation amongst older people in our community, throughout the year and at Christmas. We would appreciate the help of all the younger members in our community by requesting help in ensuring that those older, vulnerable neighbours near to you are not left feeling very lonely and left on their own over the festive season, it would be a kind and appreciated gesture. A telephone call to older family members so that they also don’t feel they are forgotten is so often well appreciated. Just a few minutes chat and few kind words can make a huge difference to their wellbeing.
