A group of stroke survivors supported by local rehabilitation charity Back on Track were presented with certificates at a photography exhibition showcasing their own work, which took place at Melksham Fire Station earlier this month.
The group, who ranged in ages from 18 to 65, had taken part in a free photography course delivered by Melksham-based training charity The Learning Curve.
Over the previous six weeks, learners had the opportunity to get outdoors and explore Devizes to practise their creative skills, focusing on subjects from texture to reflection.
This is the second bespoke course that The Learning Curve has tailored for Back on Track. Last year people supported by the stroke rehabilitation charity were given the chance to take part in a free cookery course.
Kevin Eggleton, 33, has been helped by Back on Track following a stroke in 2013 which left him partially blind and as a result he had lost his job which involved driving.
Back on Track has helped Kevin to adjust to his new situation and Kevin has now taken part in both the cookery and photography courses delivered by The Learning Curve. He said, “They are really good, it helps getting out and doing things, realising what you can and can’t do.”
The Learning Curve’s tutor Sara Iles who ran the photography course said, “After the first session, one of the learners said to me ‘Thank you – that was the first time since I had my stroke that I haven’t remembered it’.”
“The Learning Curve’s mission is to change lives through learning and this unique photography course is a great example of that.”
