Avon Bowls Club has seen more successful matches in recent weeks.
Two teams in the 1st round Mixed Pairs, Group A team jointly Captained by Danny Holland (away rink) and Colin Easton (home rink) beat Spencer Melksham BC. Group B team jointly Captained by Peter Renshaw (away rink) and Aubrey Muttitt (home rink) beat Swindon West End BC. In the 1st round of the Men’s Tourist Trophy, our team was jointly Captained by John Crowder (away rink) and Colin Easton (home rink) and comfortably beat Pewsey Vale BC. In the 1st Group game of the County Johns Trophy, Marcia Hartley and Georgina Newman played at Devizes BC and beat Gloucester 121/105.
“In the National Mixed Pairs 2nd round, Marcia Hartley and Neil Collett (Wootten Bassett BC) won their game at Chippenham Town BC. Our National Mixed Fours team, Marcia Hartley, Emma Maslin, Joe and Tom Newman, played at Avon BC and won the match against Chippenham Park BC 21/12.
Georgina Newman has been selected to play in the Walker Cup on 23rd June at the Cotswold Bowls Club.
Philip Wells and Ken Bray represented Avon & Bowls Wiltshire on 28th May when they bowled for Bowls England against Penlee (Newlyn) Bowls Club Cornwall who were celebrating their 100 years. The final score was a draw 118 each. The following day Philip played again for Bowls England at Stoke Fleming, Devon.
