11 MELKSHAM Swordfish swimmers took part in the County Open Water Swimming event at South Cerney on 23rd June.
The team made up of new and experienced open water swimmers produced some great results. Thomas Greatwood (11) won a silver medal in the boys 750m event with a time of 19:12 and Toby Benning-Batstone (14) winning silver in the 12-14 event in a time of 26:25 narrowly ahead of Jonah Veakins (12) who picked up bronze with a time of 27:38.
Jaques Bramley finished just outside the medals in fourth in a time of 28:08 followed by Shaun Bailey who was swimming open water for the first time. Max Benning-Batstone (19) picked up the silver medal in the seniors event with a time of 26:18.
The girls/ladies also picked up medals with Paige Dunlop (14) claiming a silver medal in the 12-14 age group with a great time of 25:43, Lily Bridges (17) won gold in the 17-25 years event in a time of 26:23 followed by Sophie Bailey who picked up a silver. Leanna Bryant claimed the gold in the 26-40 section in a time of 26:23 to round off a great competition for Melksham. Melksham also received an award for the club, with most swimmers attending the event, which was collected by Kate Veakins.
MASC regularly attend this event and have been successful over the past six years the club has attended.
