The choir of St Michael’s Church in Atworth recently held a successful fundraiser ahead of the choir leader’s retirement at Easter.

The event, held on Friday 14th March, raised £1,900 to help repair the church’s tower roof. Proceeds came from ticket sales and donations, and alongside the choir, there were also performances from local residents who read poetry, played instruments and sang.
The choir’s next performance will mark the end of choir leader Helen Snowball’s many years with the group as she prepares to step down from the role. “We’re enormously grateful to Helen for her hard work and for putting up with us for so long,” explained choir member David Hough.
“Please make a note in your diary to come along to St Michael’s Church, Atworth, on Sunday 20th April at 10am. It will be a very special service as we say farewell to Helen and celebrate Easter.”
The church is now looking for a new choir leader, and David encouraged applications. “We’re looking for a new choir leader, so if you feel you may be suitable and have the requisite skills, we’d love to hear from you.”
New members are also welcome to join. “We’re always looking for new members, so if you’d like to join our friendly group, please come along to one of our practices, which are held in St Michael’s Church in Atworth at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings,” said David.
