DID you know that the Melksham News is available in an audio format for visually impaired people?
Chippenham & District Talking Newspapers, produce the Melksham Talking Newspaper, packed with all the latest news from the paper.
The charity wants to make sure that they are reaching everyone in the community that could benefit from their free service. And they are also appealing for volunteers to join the team to help with recording or reading the articles.
The Melksham Talking Newspaper is recorded on the same day that the paper is published and listeners receive their copy on a USB stick, in a returnable free post plastic wallet, the next day.
Each article is recorded on a separate track so that if the listener is not interested in a particular item, they can quickly move on to the next piece of news.
The charity also supplies a free USB player where one is required. It also produces other weekly Talking Newspapers for the Chippenham, Calne, Corsham, Box, Lyneham and Malmesbury.
Secretary for the charity, Glyn Rees says, “We attended the ‘Sight Loss Information Day’ at the Assembly Hall in March organised by Wiltshire Sight – we picked up another three or four listeners, which was fantastic. But we are always looking for more.
“If people know of anyone who might benefit from receiving the Melksham Talking Newspaper, please do let them know.
“We are also looking for people to help produce the Talking Newspaper – so if there are any newly-retired people out there who fancy joining the team as readers or recorders, please do get in touch.”
To receive the free Melksham Talking Newspaper or to enquire about volunteering for the charity, call Glyn on 01249 659305, who will set things in motion straight away, including the delivery of a free USB player where one is required.
