A NEW permanent taxi rank has begun operating outside Lloyd’s Bank on the High Street – and taxi drivers are appealing for other drivers not to use the space for parking.
The new taxi rank has created four new parking spaces for taxis. It has been created to help relieve pressure on the additional five spaces already available in the Market Place
Taxi driver trade representative for the west area, Paul Carter said, “These spaces replace those taken away during the Market Place redesign. Also, only four cars can fit on the existing rank, despite being designed for five!
“The new taxi rank (outside Lloyd’s Bank on the High Street) has double yellow lines, yet is persistently used by drivers who ‘won’t be a minute’ at the cashpoints. To avoid confrontation, as was the case during our temporary residence during the Market Place works, can I remind people that Lloyd’s Bank offer parking alongside the branch in Place Road.
“I accept that ‘custom and practice’ mean many will feel they are inconvenienced, however in communicating directly, I also hope to prevent problems before they arise.”
