A MELKSHAM teenager has been charged with the burglary of an elderly man on Snarlton Lane on 23rd January.
The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons has been charged in connection with the incident where jewellery and cash were stolen.
The teenager was remanded in custody and appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Friday 26th January. He is next due to appear at the same court on Tuesday 6th February.
A 16-year-old boy from Melksham was also arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Police constable Simon Margetts from the Melksham Police Burglary Team said, “This incident understandably caused upset within the local community so I would like to reassure residents that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously and will always conduct a thorough investigation to identify suspects.
“I hope news that one person has now been charged and will appear before the courts is reassuring to the local community. Our investigation will continue.”
