THE doors of The Bell on The Common are open once again and the new landlord and landlady have big plans for the popular village pub.
Dougie Campbell and Trish MacGregor moved into the pub just a few weeks ago and already have had a busy start.
Dougie said, “It’s been brilliant and we’ve been massively busy which is great. The local people have been so supportive and really welcomed us into the village.
“We moved to the area about six months ago and were customers at the pub but we could see that it was struggling. At the time we didn’t think about perhaps taking it over, but once it became available we thought why not and now here we are.
“We love Broughton Gifford, it’s a lovely village full of lovely people. We love living so close to Melksham as well and being close to the amenities we need.”
Dougie has been in the industry since he was 18 years old so has huge experience in running a pub. He continued, “We’ve got a local guy in the kitchen creating some fantastic homemade food including desserts.
“We’re also planning on putting on various events throughout the year including a St. George’s Day medieval banquet, a charity Christmas carol concert and a Halloween party to coincide with the Rugby World Cup final. We will also be hosting a launch night on 5th November to coincide with Bonfire night. It’s a great opportunity to come along and meet the new landlord and lady of your local pub.
“It’s a great responsibility running a local village pub. We’re here to respect the pub and get it back to what it used to be like. Our motto is, ‘The Bell on The Common is back with bells on!’
“We’ve had such a great response and kind words of support from everyone, it’s been quite emotional. We’re really looking forward to settling into the community and excited for what the future holds.”
