FORGET the Person of the Year award, Melksham’s Sue Mortimer deserves an award for her ability to keep a secret!
After being told that she had won Melksham News’ Person of the Year 2019 award, Sue was asked to keep the news a secret until the paper was printed – so that’s exactly what Sue did, going as far as not even letting her husband Bob in on the news!
For almost a week Sue stayed tight-lipped about her good news, refusing to tell a single person until the paper began distribution across the town.
Sue said, “At one point Bob told me that I should have heard about the award by now, and that ‘there is always next year’!
“He found out the morning the paper came out, and he was so proud. Bob could not believe I kept it from him, he had no idea. He said keeping a secret like that I could be a spy! “I feel quite a celebrity – everyone has been congratulating me – I feel overwhelmed really!”
