CURVES in Avonside, Melksham, has a jam packed schedule of events during October – all to raise money to help fight breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research.
Curves, the fitness centre for just women is organising an array of events throughout October including a coffee morning on Thursday 7th, a cake decorating contest on Monday 26th, a raffle with great prizes and a Ladies Day on 16th October.
Manager Sue Armstrong said, “We’ve got so much going on for the Ladies Day. The Body Shop is coming along to give your skin a special treat and answer all your beauty questions. Gifts will also be available on the day or you can place an order to be delivered.
“Pink Box Boutique will also have a stall on the day, selling a range including bags, scarfs, skin care and artisan food. There will also be reflexology appointments available. The raffle winners will also be announced on Ladies Day.
“We would love to see all our members there but it’s also a great opportunity for non-members to come down and have a look at what we are all about. It’s the perfect time to come down, meet the staff and customers, have fun and raise money for a worthy cause.”
Curves is also waiving all service fees in October when customers sign up. In return, a donation of £20 is recommended to Breast Cancer Care.
Sue said, “We get involved in breast cancer awareness month every year and we try to do our best to raise awareness and much-needed funds.
“The ‘no service fee’ means that it is a great opportunity for people to get into exercising and donate to a fantastic cause. Exercising will also improve your fitness and help in the prevention of many diseases.”
Members of staff will be taking part in various sponsored events in October. Fitness coach Zoe Buckland will be cycling non-stop for three and half hours and Karen Potter will be doing a sponsored circuit of all the equipment for three hours.
Sue said, “We would love to exceed last year’s total of £750 so our aim is to reach £1,000.”
