Legendary crooner Tony Christie delighted audiences at Melksham Assembly Hall recently, performing as part of his UK tour, The Great Farewell.
He played an intimate acoustic show to 150 people, rounding off with the iconic hit ‘(Is This the Way) to Amarillo’ and the poignant ‘Thank You for Being a Friend’ – a track released with Sting to raise money for Music for Dementia, an illness Tony lives with.
Semington resident Jean Payne, who attended the show, said she felt ‘very lucky’ to have been able to see Tony Christie perform. She said, “Tony Christie completely wowed the audience with his almost non-stop performance and showed that he still has the power in his amazing voice.
“I feel very lucky to have been there to see him and the fact that he has numerous dates left to perform on his tour is just incredible.”
Assembly Hall Manager Robert Reay-Waugh, said, “We were delighted to have Tony Christie here at Melksham Assembly Hall. It was a wonderful evening for those who had the pleasure to be there and a celebration of a fantastic career.”
