Children from Snapdragons Nurseries raced their bikes in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on Friday 31st July.
The children and their families, from Snapdragons’ eight nurseries in Atworth and further afield, including Bath and Bristol, met at the Castle Combe Race Circuit, where they had been invited to hold their own track event by racing driver Ed Moore and his wife Tash.
This is the third year that Snapdragons Nursery in Atworth have met at Castle Combe for a track event. This year nursery manager, Alison Shires wanted to make it a little bit different by inviting all of Snapdragons’ nurseries and raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on behalf of one of their children who suffers from the condition.
Riley Williams, who is three years of age, started at Snapdragons in Atworth a year ago, and the staff have worked closely with his parents to help manage his condition.
Alison said, “Riley is a happy, energetic little boy who always has a smile on his face. He never lets cystic fibrosis get in the way of having a good time! He loves playing with racing cars so we knew this event would be perfect for him.”
The children raced round the 1.85 mile circuit on scooters, bikes, mini cars and even in prams, paying £1 a lap to take part.
Racing driver, Ed Moore, was impressed by everyone who took part. He said, “Jensen Button could learn some lessons from the way these children took the corners!”
The total amount raised has reached £650 so far and sponsorship is still coming in.
Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease, affecting over 10,000 people in the UK.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with the condition, and those who care for them.
The Trust believes that everyone living with the disease deserves the highest level of care and real hope for the future. An extensive research programme is helping to develop treatments that both limit the impact of cystic fibrosis, and one day will hopefully beat it for good – www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk
