THE Town Hall was lit up in purple alongside a projected #EndOverdose logo as part of International Overdose Awareness Day on 31st August.
An information stall run by Turning Point Connect was also in the Market Place during the day to help raise awareness about drug and alcohol issues and offer advice and support.
Anna Weymouth from Turning Point Connect said, “Overdose is preventable, and through recognition of the signs, and knowledge of what to do in the event of an overdose we can save lives. Through our campaign stand, we are proud to be able to bring awareness to the public forum, advise, educate and above all, continue to tackle the stigma around drug and alcohol use. Overdose can happen to anyone whether taking illicit street drugs or mixing prescribed medications and knowing how to respond and potentially save a life can prevent tragedy for so many. A huge thank you to Melksham Town Council for allowing us to use their beautiful town hall to light up the cause and to Paul at Light Fantastic for making it happen,”
Mayor Tom Price said, “As Mayor of Melksham, it was important for me to attend the overdose awareness event to show solidarity with those affected by addiction and to raise awareness about this ongoing crisis in our community. By coming together, we can break the stigma surrounding overdose, promote life-saving resources, and offer support to individuals and families struggling with substance use. This event reminds us that every life is valuable, and it’s our responsibility to ensure no one in Melksham suffers in silence or alone.”
