THE town has rallied behind the charity shops which were broken into and robbed last month.
Local people expressed their shock and disbelief after hearing that two charity shops in Melkham – Wiltshire Mind and Dorothy House – were broken into by thieves last month and were quick to get in touch with the shops to see how they could help.
Both shops were ransacked and hundreds of pounds and donations were stolen. Staff also had to keep the shops closed until the police had investigated and new doors and locks could be fitted.
MIND, the local mental health charity contacted Melksham News to extend its thanks to all of those in the community that have come forward with kind words and offers of support following the burglary in February.
Shop manager Bev Harris said, “Our faith in humanity has been restored. We could not believe that people could do this to our lovely charity shop. We would like to thank everyone for their kind words, donations to the shop and to those who have gone the extra mile – Charlie Dowell of Devizes Building Supplies for donating a new door and Rob Johnston and Lee Coleman from M.S.T for fitting the door.”
