Southern League Div One South Monday 29 August. Melksham Town 3 – 2 Westbury United Saturday 27th August Tavistock AFC 0 – 1 Melksham Town Saturday 20th August AFC Totton 3 – 0 Melksham Town
Town recorded back-to-back wins over the bank holiday weekend resulting in them moving up to 12th in the league.
On Bank Holiday Monday, Town welcomed Westbury United in an all-Wiltshire derby in front of a bumper 723 crowd.
Club chair, Darren Perrin told Melksham News, “Westbury had a goal disallowed early for an offside when Town took a fortunate lead from a corner that swivelled in the air, the Westbury keeper made a complete howler in punching the ball against Aaron Parsons’ knee and into the net.
“Westbury twice hit the woodwork and Melksham once, in the remainder of the half, and the visitors would probably have felt a little disappointed to be behind at the interval.
“The second half, for 41 minutes, Melksham dominated the proceedings and scored two very good goals from Jay Malshankey to secure what looked like a comfortable win.
“However, all credit to Westbury who never gave in and pulled two goals back in the 86th and 92nd minutes through ex-Melksham players Sam Jordan and Ryan Bole. In the 94th minute, Melksham survived a goalmouth scramble to hold onto the three points.”
On Saturday, the Town made the long trek to Tavistock and came home with the three points courtesy of another goal from Jay Malshankey.
Darren added, “Richard, staff and players deserved their rewards this weekend; we looked tired in the last 10-minutes against Westbury but having travelled nearly 350 miles on the Saturday and then also playing two games in three days in warm conditions, perhaps that was to be expected.
“It has been a decent start to by Town, with an opportunity to move into the top four on Saturday, when Lymington visit the Oakfield Stadium with a 3pm ko.
“Finally, thanks must go to our brilliant supporters and sponsors for their magnificent support on Monday. It was great to see the ground very busy.”
On Saturday 20th August, Town had gone down 3-0 to AFT Totton.
