MEMBERS of Melksham Townswomen’s Guild were welcomed by the chairman, Tricia Hoy.
Tricia reports, “Information was given about the outings, the first one in June is to Bucklers Hard to include the village, museum and a river trip. We are hoping to fill the coach to keep the costs down, so family and friends have been invited to come along too. The second outing is to Dents Glove museum in Warminster in September, possibly followed by a cream tea.
“After tea, Ben gave a talk on ‘Tax, Care and Toy Boys’. Ben provided information about wills, care and inheritance plans for family protection and peace of mind. He provided up-to-date rulings, along with anecdotes of how things can go wrong and examples of how to ensure your wishes can be put into practice. This could be a pretty sad sort of subject, but Ben did manage to bring some light heartedness into the afternoon.
“The next meeting will be on 8th June at 2.00pm in the United Church Hall and the talk will be ‘Vikings’ by Mrs K Sterne.”
April Report
Melksham Townswomen’s Guild held their monthly meeting on Friday 13th April.
Ivy Dixon reports, “Our chairman, Mrs Tricia Hoy dealt with the usual business and advised the members of the many activities planned for the forthcoming year, including details of outings to be held during the better weather!
“After tea and biscuits, the West country author Dawn Lawrence spoke on behalf of wildlife charities with her book ‘2Steps Behind.’ This is an illustrated, fun book of poems in which each animal speaks for itself, reflecting the plight in which endangered and threatened animals find themselves in a rapidly changing world.
“She explained that she came to write her books due to her life-long interest in wildlife conservation. Her work has been used for educational purposes in schools and has been endorsed by Virginia McKenna of the Born Free Foundation. Altogether a most thought-provoking and interesting speaker.”
Visitors and new members are always welcome. Phone Tricia 01225 704805 for more information.
