Melksham Townswomen’s Guild celebrated 90 years of the national organisation last week.
The Townswomen’s Guild began in 1929, building on the Suffrage movement to continue empowering all women. The Melksham branch of the Guild was formed in 1955 – the group will celebrate their 65th anniversary next year. To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the national movement, chair of the group, Tricia Hoy, hosted a summer cream tea party in her back garden.
Speaking to Melksham News, Tricia said, “The Townswomen’s Guild is such a supportive and friendly group – we are always there for each. Throughout the year we host a number of meetings with informative and entertaining speakers. We also arrange a number of outings for members to enjoy. There are about 24 members at the moment, we are always open to new members!”
Melksham Townswomen will next meet after the summer break, on 13th September at 2pm at the United Church Rooms. For further information please contact Tricia on 01225 704805.
