MELKSHAM parkrun friends, Sue Mortimer and Annie Benham, successfully completed a 13-mile trek for the Alzheimer’s Society, as part of the charity’s Trek26 Salisbury to Stonehenge fundraising event.
Trekkers taking part can either walk 26 miles or 13 miles. The 13-mile trek starts at South Newton and Great Wishford Village Hall in Salisbury, ending at the Hudson’s field next to the rugby club.
Sue said, “It was a really good day and we were really pleased the weather was good, as this helped! The first mile was really quick and I couldn’t quite believe we had already walked a mile at that point. The last mile seemed to go on longer than the rest. We really enjoyed it and it was nice to be out walking in nature.”
Completing the trek in six hours and 40 minutes, Sue said, “Annie and I do the parkrun every week, so this formed a big part of our training. I had Covid earlier this year and was worried that I would struggle with doing this walk, but thankfully I was ok. The next day, I was Morris dancing at the Food and River festival!”
