Two trustees of a Melksham charity are set to take on endurance challenges to raise funds for families of critically ill children.
David and Lisa from Evie’s Gift will each take on separate challenges to raise funds for the charity, which provides immediate and practical support to families with a critically ill child in hospital, including help with hotel accommodation, food, and travel costs.
To raise funds, David is undertaking an ultra-walking challenge, pushing himself to his physical and mental limits to highlight the urgent need for support.
“David has taken on tough challenges every year to raise money for Evie’s Gift, and this year he’s pushing himself further than ever before,” explained charity manager Jess Hilsdon.
“His biggest challenge yet: three Ultra Challenges, 100km per walk, 24 hours non-stop per walk, with over 7,500 feet of ascent per walk.
“In just three weekends across May and June, David will conquer the Jurassic Coast, trek around the Cotswolds, and endure the rugged Lake District. That’s the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon while walking 100km.”
“Meanwhile, Lisa is stepping up to a marathon challenge. She will be running the Boston Marathon on 21st April and, just six days later, tackling the London Marathon—an extraordinary test of resilience and determination. Her efforts aim to bring national attention to the cause and demonstrate the unwavering commitment of Evie’s Gift’s trustees.”
Both David and Lisa said they are ‘determined’ to push themselves to the limit for families facing ‘unimaginable’ hardship. “We want to ensure they have one less worry during such a difficult time,” they said.
Evie’s Gift was founded in memory of Evie Clover, who died in 2018 after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour at the age of 13. During her treatment, her parents witnessed firsthand the financial and emotional toll placed on families with critically ill children in hospital. Today, Evie’s Gift provides emergency financial support for accommodation and essential expenses across the UK, ensuring parents can stay close to their child without the added burden of financial stress.
Jess said, “Small charities are facing significant fundraising challenges, with limited resources and increasing demand for support. Unlike larger organisations, they often struggle to secure consistent funding, making public support crucial for their survival. Every donation to Evie’s Gift goes directly to families in need, helping them through some of the most difficult days of their lives.”
