Rhythmic gymnast and three times British Senior Champion, Laura Halford, attended and opened The Rhythmic Dance Twirl Association at Christie Miller Sports Centre last month.
Tanya Denning, the leader of Melksham’s Enigma Twirl Team, has started the Rhythmic Dance Twirl Association (RDTA) alongside a number of other groups in the region in the hope of holding affordable, fun competitions.
Tanya said, “The day was very busy with various teams and independent members, competing from across the UK, with some troupes travelling the day before and staying in local accommodation in Melksham.
“The atmosphere was relaxed and fun with lots of enthusiasm brought forward in all the performances. All in all, an incredible first competition for the association. We have received some great feedback from people who attended.”
Marilyn, troupe deputy in Trowbridge said, “What a refreshing new association. The first RDTA competition had a really friendly atmosphere. I watched girls from many different troupes chatting together as they lined up to compete against each other, making new friends. A great day where competition was matched with friendship. I am proud to be part of RDTA and the Trowbridge girls will certainly be returning in June.”
Olivia from Odyssey Majorettes said, “Our team really enjoyed the day. It was fantastic to see so many twirlers coming together for RDTA’s first competition. Our team took home over 30 awards and we are looking forward to competing with the RDTA at their second competition in June.”
RDTA is now focusing on tweaking a few areas to help improve the structure of the association and are preparing for the next competition. Tanya added, “It’s very exciting times ahead for RDTA, with other troupes and independent members still being accepted.
“Melksham’s own team, Enigma, took part with many members being their first time competing (primarily the pee-wee group 4 to 6 years) and everyone had a fantastic time, with many awards being won, awards as follows: Team events 4 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, 1 x 4th – (6 team events entered) Solo and duet awards: 1st x 5, 2nd x 4, 3rd x 7, 4th x 5, 5th x 7, 6th x 4.”
Enigma is still recruiting members and is also looking to start concentrating on the upcoming carnival season ahead. For information on both RDTA and Enigma, please contact Tanya Denning-Kuijper on 07702 808079 for details.
