THE team behind the transformation of Melksham Railway Station are on the hunt for volunteers.
TransWilts is looking for volunteers to help with painting and decorating, clearing the site of debris and foliage, and café operators for when the ‘Melksham Hub’ is officially opened.
TransWilts say, “Would you like to join us and volunteer at the café? Perhaps help with gardening? Maybe get involved in other projects at the new Melksham Hub? This is a great opportunity to give something back to the community and meet new friends.
“We will happily supply health and safety training for these individuals.
It was hoped that the new Melksham Hub café would be opened this year, but TransWilts has decided to delay the opening of the café until spring 2021.
“The current Covid-19 restrictions could make it tricky and the winter weather won’t help us,” said a TransWilts spokesperson.
However, the team are still keen to hear from anyone interested in volunteering to help run the café when it opens. About the shifts available for café volunteers, TransWilts said, “We want to catch the first train traffic (approx. 7am). Initially we will be open until about 3-4pm each day so need to stagger the shifts and have volunteers to cover all.”
Planned improvements for facilities at the station, include a café, piazza, toilet, and an extension to the parking areas. For more information or to enquire about volunteering, email: sophie@transwilts.org
